The NUI student body is very diverse. Students come from a variety of cultural and economic backgrounds. The current student body consists of: 63% Asian-American (Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Sri Lankan, Chinese, Japanese, etc.), 35% White (European and Middle Eastern), 1% African-American and 1% Hispanic. The majority of the students are bilingual, and some are trilingual. The diversity of the NUI student body is an asset to this institution. Having such a broad spectrum of ethnic backgrounds gives the students greater perspective on cultural traditions as well as religious understanding.
